§ 26-31. Determination of need by fire chief.

  • The fire chief or his designee shall determine the need for standby fire watches pursuant to section 42-34(d) regarding public assemblies or emergency watches (fire watch) in any place of public assembly, emergency situations, or any other place where people congregate, based on the number of people expected to attend, or the nature of the performance, exhibition, event, display, contest, or activity. Based on such determination, the fire chief may require the owner, agent, or lessee organizing the event to employ one or more fire inspectors, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and/or firefighters (fire rescue personnel), as required and approved by the fire chief, to be on watch/duty. Except in the case of an emergency appointment of a fire watch by the fire chief, the fire chief shall require the owner, agent, or lessee organizing the performance or event to agree in writing to pay the village in advance of the event for the fire watch services provided, at rates established in this article or by resolution.
